Chinese New Year 2018 -The Year of the Dog.

Chinese New Year, kicked off last week as the start of the Chinese Calendar. The New Year celebration is one of the biggest festivals in the calendar for Chinese communities across the world and ushers in the Year of the Dog. Also known as the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year marks the beginning of the Chinese calendar, with festivities lasting for around two weeks.

In addition to China, the Spring Festival celebrations are organised in dozens of countries around the world. With in excess of 2 billion people taking part. Countries such as USA, Malaysia and the Philippines have huge celebrations, while communities gather in Chinatowns worldwide to hold events and set off fireworks and lanterns.

Each year, the Chinese Calendar assigns one of 12 Zodiac signs with an associated animal. This year 2108 is the Year of the Dog. The Chinese believe that each sign has associate characteristics, with people born under the dog sign believed to be very loyal, honest. Dogs are outwardly popular but often suffer from anxiety.
